Agnes R. Langeland, 86, of Clare, passed away peacefully at Woodland Hospice. Agnes was born on December 26, 1926 in Muskegon, daughter of the late Derk and Jennie (Dutmer) Scholtens. She married Bill Langeland on November 22, 1946 and they were married for 55 years at the time of Bills death in 2002. During their lifetime together they lived in Muskegon, Mt. Pleasant, St. Johns, and Alma. Agnes was employed by Central Michigan University for 25 Years. She was the Office Manager of the School of Graduate Studies at the time of her retirement in 1986. Active in many volunteer activities, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alma where she served as past deacon. Agnes was also a lifetime member of the Gratiot Community Hospital Auxiliary, a volunteer with the Red Cross and other community projects. Loving mother of John (Margery) Langeland of Rhinelander, WI, and Karen L. Langeland of Clare; devoted grandmother of Janell (Derek) Boone and two great grandchildren, Jacob and Kristin of Portland, OR. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Danhof; sisters-in-law Marva (Les) Stevens and Dottie Scholtens; close family friend, Barbara Elliott and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill Langeland, son Randall Langeland and brother Clarence Scholtens. Interment will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Muskegon, Michigan. Donations may be made to Woodland Hospice or a charity of your choice.
