Agnes Katherine (Quillen) Evans

Agnes Katherine Evans, 76, formally of East Lansing, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2004 from ovarian cancer at the Rose Harbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 5:00 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Agnes was born May 16, 1928, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Pohl) Quillen. She married Thomas James Evans on July 26, 1952, at Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Pleasant. From that marriage, she had two daughters Yvonne and Deirdre. Agness greatest joy in life was her selfless devotion to her children and grandchildren. After her daughters had grown, Agnes enjoyed working with children as a teachers assistant at several schools in the East Lansing area. Prior to her residence in Kalamazoo, Agnes was a long-time parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in East Lansing. Agnes is survived by her two daughters, Yvonne (Richard) Wordell of Kalamazoo, Deirdre (Michael) Crown of Kentwood; Thomas J. Evans of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren, Austin Wordell, and Erica and Barry Crown; three brothers: Patrick Quillen and Jack Quillen, both of Mt. Pleasant; James Quillen of Pewamo; two sisters: Marilyn Quillen and Viola Sheahan, both of Mt. Pleasant, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph in 1972 and Katherine in 1984; four sisters, Colleen Spencer, Rose Ellen DeShane, Mildred Quillen, and Stella Parker; and one brother, Martin Quillen. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
