Alice Utley, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018, at home with her family by her side. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 26, at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Biendenbender officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Alice was born December 22, 1936, in Flint, MI, daughter of the late Harvey S. and Lucille E. (Bender) Cripps. Her marriage to Sirwell Hoard was blessed with five children, Marlene, Archie, Veronica, Brian, and Marion. She later married Weir Ted Utley. Alice was employed by Central Michigan University for 20 years as a mail clerk. She also worked at Burger King on Isabella and Pickard Roads for nine years. Some of her favorite pastimes were crocheting, watching birds, and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved being in church. Alice is survived by four children, Archie (Deb) Hoard of St. Helen, Veronica Hoard of Connecticut, Brian (Andrea) Hoard of Haymarket, VA, and Marion (Gary) McGillis of Grayling; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three siblings, Pat Nettleton of Gladwin, Norma (Don) Davis of Greenwood, IN, and Gloria Tallieu of Mt. Pleasant; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ted Utley; and infant daughter, Marlene Hoard; grandson, Jake Lorenz; great granddaughter, Kelsey Lorenz; and two brothers, Russell and Harold Cripps.
