Anna Marie Klumpp

It is with a heavy heart we share that our loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away at McLaren Central Michigan Hospital on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the age of 93 due to complications of Covid-19.  Anna Marie or 'Ann', as her relatives and friends called her, was born October 25, 1927, in Beal City, Michigan, daughter of the late Julius and Bertha (Dole) Schumacher. Ann grew up and lived on the farm of her parents in Nottawa Township and completed her years of study in Beal City. She graduated from Beal City High School in 1946 as the valedictorian of her class.  Following graduation, she briefly worked as a switchboard operator at General Telephone Company of Mt. Pleasant until she met her husband, Stan who had recently returned from the U.S. Army in World War II.  Ann and Stan were married at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Beal City on April 10, 1948, and they celebrated 70 years of loving union until Stan's passing on May 10, 2018. Ann became the perfect partner for Stan on their small 40-acre farm. A farm girl at heart, she could be found on the tractor in the fields, helping with lawn mowing, and working in what her neighbors called the best vegetable and sweet corn garden in the township.  No chore was too difficult for Ann and she nurtured a strong sense of family and work ethic in the seven children she and Stan raised on the farm.  This sense of "everyone pitching in" as she often remarked, is observed to this day in the extended family and everyone today looks upon "Grandma" or "Great Grandma"  as someone they dearly, dearly loved and will miss immensely!! Ann also served as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service out of Mt. Pleasant for 20 years.  An active, long-time contributor in the parishes of St. Charles and St. Henry's, Ann served on the Altar Society, volunteered in many church and community events, and assisted in "Prayer Line" support services. She later became a member of Sacred Heart Parish.  Additionally, Ann joined her husband, Stan, as a "Meals on Wheels" carrier as well as a volunteer for the Isabella County Commission on Aging. A lover of travel, in her retirement years Ann joined Stan in trips to countries in Europe, South America and the Caribbean.  This included several years of winter vacationing in Florida where she joined her golf-enthusiast husband in many rounds on a variety of golf courses in southern Florida. Ann is survived by her six children, Dennis (Silvia) Klumpp of St. Augustine, FL, Marsha (Bill) Grace of Cadillac, Marilyn (Leo) Wickert of Weidman, Mary Ann (John) Olinger of Oxford,  Marlene (Bob) Zuker of Mt. Pleasant, and Bryan (Sandy) Klumpp of Traverse City; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren (with two on the way); siblings, Kathleen Pohl of Rosebush, Ken (Nancy) Schumacher of White Lake, and Carol (Lindy) Swan of Weidman; in-laws, Kendall (Lois) Klumpp of Mt. Pleasant, and Marlin (Kathy) Klumpp of Tecumseh; and many nieces and nephews.  Her children also included two exchange students that she and Stan hosted from Brazil and Germany. Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stan; son, Norman Klumpp; in-laws, Deo and Shirley McClintic, and Gerald Pohl. A private Funeral Mass for Ann will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant and Father Don Henkes as concelebrant. The Mass will be streamed live on the funeral home's Facebook page. To watch the live stream click here ( Watch Live Stream ). Interment will be in St. Henry's Cemetery in Rosebush. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to send their gift directly to the Commission on Aging, 2200 S. Lincoln Rd., Mt. Pleasant MI 48858.
