Archie J. Thompson, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at home. He was born February 20, 1939, in Escanaba, Michigan, the son of the late Lester H. and Cecilia (Bellefeauille) Thompson. After graduating from a Detroit high school in 1958, Archie enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1961 in San Fransico. His marriage to Bonnie Sue Harjo was blessed with four children: Monica, Terri, Tony, and Jennifer. He later had three children with his second wife, Irene Allison Zammett: Christopher and twins, Roseanne and Ronald. While living in California, he was employed by CalInk and Forrest Chemical. After moving to Michigan in 1983, he was employed by Lindsey Water for 31 years, retiring in 2014. Some of his favorite pastimes were bowling, garage sales, and playing cards. Archie was an excellent joke teller and often shared stories about his adolescence and his time with the Marines in Okinawa, Japan. But the true way to his heart was through his stomach. Archie loved buffets, mainly at KFC in Alma and Chinese food at The Great Wall in Mt. Pleasant. He loved his Mexican food too. Before passing, he checked off a few things on his bucket list: driving to California (in 2015), buying a Mustang, and buying a convertible. He lived a good life. Archie is survived by his children, Monica (Donald) Calderon of Mt. Pleasant, Terri (Brian) Newell of Clare, Christopher Thompson of Sacramento, CA, Ronald (Angel) Thompson of Sacramento, CA, and Jennifer (Peter) Angeles of West Sacramento, CA; first wife, Bonnie Sue Manriquez of South San Francisco; step daughters, Theresa Shea and Antoinette Benett, both of Sacramento, CA; 17 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren with one on the way; 1 great-great granddaughter; sister, Lois Hastings of Missouri; several nieces and nephews; and close friends, the Olivias Family and Cushman Family. He was preceded in death by his parents; second wife, Irene; son, Tony Thompson; daughter, Roseanne Hall; granddaughter, Janessa Hall; brother, Lloyd Thompson; sisters, June DiLaura, Sharon Thompson and Julie Thompson; half sister, Anetta Thompson; and step daughter, Yvonne Johnston. Archie's funeral will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Jim Damitio officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
