Arlene Appelgreen, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010, at Central Michigan Community Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Monday one hour prior to the Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Academy Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Arlene was born March 18, 1930, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Dorothy (Fertaw) Casner. She married Donald Appelgreen on Sept. 18, 1948, at Sacred Heart. She was the district manager for Avon from 1967 until her retirement in 1993. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish. She enjoyed cooking and catered for a number of weddings and restaurants including the Embers and Mt. Pleasant Country Club. But the most important thing in Arlenes life was her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arlene is survived by her husband of 61 years, Don; three children, Tom (Sheila) Appelgreen of Clare, Lois LuAnn Oakley of Mt. Pleasant, and Julie (Russell) Schafer of Beal City; six granddaughters, Kelly (Craig) Carmoney of Midland, Amber (Philip) McGrew of Morrisville, NC, Nichole (Brad) Nienhuis of Allendale, Abbie (fianc Matthew Roseman) Oakley of Brighton, and Ashley and Katelyn Schafer, both of Beal City; 11 great-grandchildren; Lindsay, Jackson, and Sydney Carmoney, Noah and Drew Nienhuis, Lexas, Morgan, P.J. and Ryder McGrew, and Cadin Oakley and Lili Roseman. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jane Bingham in 2002.
