Barbara A. Bissot passed away Saturday, May 26, 2007 at Central Michigan Community Hospital after a short illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne and her brother, Father Robert Bissot concelebrating. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, at 3 p.m. following the Mass. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass begins. Those who wish to honor Barbara may consider Sacred Heart Church, the new CMU Education Building Fund, or the charity of choice. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Barbara was born in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Carl and Bertha (Jannausch) Bissot. She graduated from Aquinas College and received her Masters and Doctorate from the University of Michigan. Her first teaching position was in the Grand Rapids Public Schools where she became a teacher consultant. For three years, as a civilian, she taught for the Department of Defense in a U.S. Army school in Germany. She returned from Germany to the Grand Rapids Public Schools and in 1962, assumed a position teaching fourth grade at the Central Michigan University Laboratory school and retired in 1992 from the Department of Elementary Education at CMU as an Emeriti Professor of Education. Some of her favorite pastimes were traveling, collecting handmade and ethnically costumed dolls often purchased from international artists, volunteering in the gift shop at Central Michigan Community Hospital, and playing bridge with the CMU Womens afternoon bridge group. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, the Mt. Pleasant Historical Society, and served 19 years as a docent in the Art Reach picture program. Barbara is survived by two brothers, Father Robert Bissot of West Branch and Dr. Tom (Virginia) Bissot of Newark, Delaware; a sister, Carol (William) Butler of Cincinnati, Ohio; as well as many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
