Barbara West, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018, at home with her family by her side. A Funeral Mass for Barbara will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Don Henkes as celebrant. A luncheon will follow at Lincoln Reception Center (attached to Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home). The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7:30 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to MidMichigan Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Barbara was born March 21, 1941, in Detroit, MI, daughter of the late Edwin Ward and Marie Ellen (Lawson) Kerby. A graduate of Shepherd High School, Barbara married Larry Michael West on January 6, 1956, in Indiana. She worked for Mt. Pleasant Public Schools as a bus driver for 19 years. A devout Catholic, Barbara was a member of Sacred Heart Parish. She enjoyed playing Bingo, slots, board games, garage sales, and collecting elephants. She spent much of her life in Empire where she grew to love Lake Michigan. But more than anything she loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Barbara is survived by her husband of 62 years, Mike West; three children Chris (Nancy) West of Mt. Pleasant, Bruce West (Nan Larson) of Shepherd, and Michelle Jackson of Mt. Pleasant; six grandchildren, Jessica (Trevor) Brooks and Sarah Tefft, Crystal West, and Jacqueline Jackson, Barry Jackson and Ozzie Jackson; 13 great-grandchildren, Richard, Christopher, Elise, Seray, Charlie, Josie, Jasmine, Mayson, Harley, Garner, Jozzlyn, Izak, and Hailey; one great-great grandson, Marz; seven siblings, Gene (Beth) Kerby of Benzonia, Darlene Gray of Honor, Maria (Jack) Shippey of St. Johns, Fred (Dorothy) Kerby of Benzonia, Wayne Kerby of Mt. Pleasant, Debbie (Denny) Keitzman of Jackson, and Kim Mead of Sparta; many nieces and nephews; and in-law, Veronica Lol Gothup and Florence Tip Phillips. She was preceded in death by her parents; three siblings and their spouses, Tom and Connie Kerby, Cheryl Carpenter, Shirley and Marvin Young, and Bryce Gray; and in-laws, Joe and Rose West, Jack and Betty West, Richard West, Gerald Ace Butch West, Keith Gothup and Bill Phillips.
