Bernard P. Schafer, 78, of Gladwin passed away Monday, April 24, 2006 in Rochester, MI. His funeral service will be held at St. Joseph The Worker Church in Beal City on Friday, April 28, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with Father John Cotter officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Thursday from 3-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph The Worker School. Bernard was born Oct. 6, 1927 in Nottawa Twp. of Isabella County, the son of Charles A. and Anna M. (Thielen) Schafer. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Pipefitters Local 636 in the Detroit area for over 50 years. Bernard enjoyed fishing in his younger years. He later did a lot of traveling south during the winter months with his motor home. Bernard is survived by four children, Bernard (Pat) Schafer of the Upper Peninsula, Janet (Tom) Schafer-Beck of Oxford, Mark Schafer of Hazel Park and Michael Schafer of Lake Orion; four brothers, Eugene (Linda) Schafer, Stephen (Irene) Schafer, Philip (Judy) Schafer, and Willard (Shirley) Schafer; one sister Clara Mae Quillen of Mt. Pleasant; sister-in-law, Mary Schafer, two brothers-in-law, Bob Clark and Carl Frick. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Martha (as an infant), Dolores Frick, and Theresa Clark; and one brother, Virgil.
