Bernice A. Hutchins, 85, of Mt. Pleasant died Monday, March 15, 2004, at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A vigil service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation or to the Heart Association of Michigan. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Bernice was born Feb. 24, 1919, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Frank and Louise (Gallagher) Walker. She married R. Max Hutchins on Oct. 18, 1952, at Sacred Heart Church. A life member of Sacred Heart Parish, Bernice graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1938. She was a homemaker most of her life but also worked as a bookkeeper for the Regional Center. She enjoyed gardening but most of all, loved her family dearly. Bernice is survived by two daughters, Dianna (Ronald) McDonald of Mt. Pleasant and Linda (Ray) Ballard of Colorado Springs, CO; her son, Michael (Kathy) Hutchins of Mt. Pleasant; eight grandchildren, Brian McDonald, Amy McDonald, and Kevin (Sue) McDonald, Brandon Laney and Nicole Laney, and Keith Hutchins, Jessica Hutchins, and Timothy Hutchins; one great grandson, Alec Cadin McDonald; two sisters, Eloise Untiedt of La Jolla, CA and Julia (Ted) Konicki of Fremont; two brothers, Tom (Thelma) Walker and John (Gladys) Walker, both of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Hutchins in 1993; her parents; brother, Ed Walker; and sister, Imogene Foldesi.
