Bessie Kalis, 93, of Mt. Pleasant went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at Stone Lodge in Shepherd. Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Gene Kooi of Entrican Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Winn with a luncheon to follow at Winn Community Center. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Coomer United Methodist Church or Stone Lodge. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Bessie was born May 27, 1923, in Winn, daughter of the late Herman A. and Dorothy L. (Moore) Jones. She married Edward A. Kalis on March 6, 1939 in Angola, IN. She farmed alongside her husband for 69 years. She will be remembered for her strong work ethic, sense of humor, and thrifty ways. Some of her favorite pastimes were playing cards, fishing, sewing, cooking, canning, and clowning. But more than anything, she enjoyed being with her family. Bessie is survived by three children, Nancy (Bert) Fodor of Grass Lake, Dixie (Jack) Hegenauer of Six Lakes, and Edward H. (Shirley) Kalis of Mt Pleasant; 18 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; brother, Jack Jones of Winn; and sister-in-law, Joyce Jones of Mt. Pleasant. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edward in 2008; daughter, Julia Esch in 2015; son-in-law, Myron Esch in 2009; two great-grandsons, Bryan Pruitt and Andrew Kalis; two brothers, Bob and Gary Jones; and three sisters, Louise Peltier, Zelpha Morey, and Elizabeth Wood.
