Betty Figg, 85, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, at Maplewood. A Funeral Mass for Betty will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, October 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at Riverwood. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Thursday from 3-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Douglas Michael Figg Art Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Betty was born Sept. 15, 1930, in Bennington, MI, daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Swider) Horski. She graduated from Owosso High School in 1949 and earned her bachelors degree in Education from Central Michigan University in 1955. She was on the homecoming court at CMU. On Dec. 24, 1955, she married Richard C. Figg in Utica, MI. She taught elementary school in Utica and Oxford prior to moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1960 at which time she and her husband founded Riverwood Golf Course. Together they worked side by side to provide not only for their family, but for the community as well. Making Riverwood a success was her passion in life. Without her it wouldnt be what it is today. One of Bettys notable accomplishments was startingthe Riverwood State Junior Tournament which still exists today. Over the years, she developed a relationship with young golfers, annual members, and patrons that eventually became her extended family. Besides her passion for Riverwood, nothing was more important to her than her own family. Betty had an enormous devotion to them, as well as to her faith. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Drivin Dolls Golf League. Betty is survived by her husband of 59 years, Richard Dick Figg; three children, Marty (Joyce) Figg of Mt. Pleasant, Terri (Bob) Sommerville of Mt. Pleasant, and Cindy (Patrick) Figg-Currier of Austin, TX; six grandchildren, Sherry (Aaron) Moravy-Blizzard, Jeremy (Brandy) Moravy, Haley and John Sommerville, and Kaitland and Mary Currier; four great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Sacha Moravy-Penchansky and Ellieanna and Chadlyn Moravy; brother, Maurice Horski of Lansing; brother-in-law, Gerald Sherman of South Haven; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Douglas in 1993; and siblings, Joseph and Edward Horski and Margaret Sherman and Barbara Page.
