Betty Nowland, 85, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Monday, April 27, 2015, at Maplewood Assisted Living. Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Father Thomas Held officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the funeral home. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be to Maplewood Assisted Living (1945 Churchill Blvd., Mt. Pleasant MI 48858) or Great Lakes Caring Hospice (3100 West Road #203, East Lansing MI 48823). Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Betty was born Dec. 14, 1929, in Mt. Pleasant, daughter of the late Frederick Arthur and Wahnetta (Clark) Harris. A graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in 1948, she married James F. Nowland on Oct. 6, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed swimming, gardening, playing cards, Yahtzee, and playing Bingo. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Betty is survived by two children, Timothy (Donna) Nowland of Rochester Hills and Kimberly (Brian) Crane of Mt. Pleasant; three grandchildren, Jeremy (Julie) Nowland, Christopher Nowland, and Katelin Crane; and two great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Henry. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Nowland; and brother, William Harris.
