Betty Sunderman, 70, of Mt. Pleasant passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2003 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Burial will follow in Salt River Cemetery in Shepherd. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 8 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to MidMichigan Hospice, 3007 N. Saginaw Rd., Midland MI 48640. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Betty was born October 26, 1932, in Beal City, the daughter of Frank and Louise Schafer. She married Howard Sunderman on May 26, 1956, at St. Philomena Church in Beal City. She retired as a supervisor in 1987 from the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center. She enjoyed playing bingo, bowling and traveling. Betty is survived by five children, Frank Sunderman of Clare, Karen (Bob) Wright of Remus, Ruth (Jim) Oldaker of Flint, Sandy (Dan) Zarkowski of Newport News, Va., and Judy (Bruce) Norman of Everett, WA; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild; five brothers, Norm (Viola) Schafer of Shepherd, Ken (June) Schafer of Mt. Pleasant, Everett (Betty) Schafer of Beal City, Fran (Theresa) Schafer of Beal City, and Jim (Pat) Schafer of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Evelyn (Ron) Malish of Mt. Pleasant; a sister-in-law, Shirley Hill; a brother-in-law, John Sheahan of Beal City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard in 1984; a brother, Nick Schafer; five sisters, Beatrice Sheahan, Orielda Farner, Marie Rahl, Sister Margaret Schafer and Lillian Blasen; and a grandson, Steven Wright.
