Blanche Schafer, 97, of Beal City passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2006 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at St. Joseph The Worker Church with Father Thomas J. McNamara presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 until mass begins. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or St. Joseph Church. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Blanche was born July 16, 1909, in Weidman, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann (Ley) Mead. She married the late William J. Schafer on August 25, 1931 at St. Philomena Church in Beal City. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and the altar society. Some of her favorite pastimes were knitting, crocheting, and gardening. Family was very important to her, especially her grandchildren. Blanche is survived by five children, Sister Josine Schafer, O.P. of Mt. Pleasant and Joseph W. Schafer, Herman Schafer, Carl Schafer, and Earl (Rose) Schafer, all of Weidman; 30 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William J. Schafer in 1995; daughter, Anna Marie Jarvis in 1996; her parents; two grandsons, Kevin Jarvis in 1994 and Brad Schafer in 2003; two daughters-in-law, Carol Schafer and Karen Schafer, both in 2002; and two brothers, Linus and Norman Mead.
