Bruce Long, 69, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Sparrow Clinton Hospital in St. Johns. Bruce was born November 25, 1953, in St. Johns, Michigan, son of Gareld and Aleene (Lytle) Long. After graduating from Ashley High School in 1972, Bruce soon enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves and served his country for 27 years, including time spent in Desert Storm. He married Karen A. Earl on September 19, 1975, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and they were married for nearly 40 years until her death in 2015. Bruce worked as a factory manager for Alma Products. When asked how he would like to be remembered, Bruce wanted to be remembered as a person who loved God, his country, and wanted to serve. He loved his family and friends and would do anything in his power to help them. Bruce was also thankful for his care providers and prayed that God would look after them, keeping them safe and healthy. Kind words from a kind man. Bruce is survived by his father, Gareld Long of Ashley; siblings, Roberta (Steve) Miller of Fowler, Curt (Brenda) Long of Bannister, Leota Long of Ashley, Tony Long of Elsie, and Onalee Long of Ashley; in-laws, Donna Bellinger of Mt. Pleasant, Jean Beck of Lansing, Donna Earl of Mt. Pleasant, Larry (Debbie) Earl of Laingsburg, and Shirley (Roger) Rice of Alma; special nieces, Heather Justice of Mt. Pleasant and Carrie (Walter) Felton and their children, Emma, Gavin and Jr. of Elsie; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Aleene; wife, Karen; and sister, Jackie Tribble. A Funeral Mass for Bruce will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Shepherd with Father Fred Kawka as celebrant and Deacon Todd Lovas assisting. Following the luncheon (at the parish hall) Bruce will be laid to rest in St. Leo's Cemetery in Winn, alongside his wife, Karen. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. with a vigil service starting at 6:30 p.m. and at the church on Friday one hour prior to Mass.
