Carl A. Archey, 84, of Mt. Pleasant died Saturday, April 8, 2006 at home, surrounded by his family. His memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at Lux Funeral Home with Father Robert Byrne officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service begins. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, 1500 Weiss St., Saginaw MI 48602-5251. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Carl was born September 7, 1921 in Mt. Victory, Ohio, the son of Cleveland and Dorothy (Allison) Archey. His first wife, and mother of his children, Mary (Leneweaver) died in 1975. He then married Arlene Arndt on Nov. 10, 1979. After her death in 1986, he later married Barbara Robinson on Sept. 24, 1988. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 during World War II serving in Italy and Africa. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Surgical Technician. As a businessman for 40 years, Carl owned Archey Bros. Sales and Service with his brother, Bud. Carl was a lifetime member of the VFW, the American Legion, Moose Lodge, Elks Club and National Automobile Dealers Association. He spent the summer months at his home on Higgins Lake and had nine wonderful winters in Englewood, Fla. Some of his favorite pastimes were getting together with family and friends, backyard cookouts, boating, and card playing. He was also known to favor wearing his red shirt to go to the hunting cabin in the U.P., mainly to do the dishes, according to his family. Carl is survived by his wife, Barbara of Mt. Pleasant; three daughters, Maureen Steen of Grand Rapids, Kathy (Pete) Merrifield of Mt. Pleasant, and Julie Bower of Mt. Pleasant; a step-son, Robert Curtis of Muskegon; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; his brother, Bob Archey of Ludington; his sister, Claribel Taylor of Oregon; sister-in-law, Fran Archey of Lansing and his sister-in-law and special friend, Della Fogarsi of Caro. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary in 1975, and his second wife, Arlene in 1986; three brothers, Frank, Charlie and Bud; and a great-grandson, Owen Steen.
