Carol Sampson, 59, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., with Pastor Joe Wentworth of Central Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 3-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service begins. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice (formerly Hospice of Central Michigan) or Morey Cancer Center. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Carol was born Dec. 10, 1948, in Lansing, the daughter of Melvin and Lillian (Malusek) Johnson. She attended Eastern High School and, while living in DeWitt, worked as a childcare provider in Lansing for 15 years. She moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1993 and has been working for Meijer ever since. She enjoyed gardening, crafting, writing poems, traveling, nature watching, and hunting in her younger years. But most important to her was her family, especially her grandchildren. She married Larry Sampson on Dec. 10, 1966 in Lansing and that marriage produced five surviving children, Tammy (Jerry Rufli) Matejka of Foster, KY, Shannon (Edward) Ley of Mt. Pleasant, Connie (Erik) Thrana of Lansing, Shane (Melissa) Sampson of Lake Isabella, and Kimberly (Gerald Barror) Sampson of Mt. Pleasant; and nine grandchildren, Alyson, Jarek, and Dalton Matejka, Patricia and Shania Presley, Bryce and Owen Thrana, Dane Sampson, and Lillian Sampson. Also surviving are two brothers, Patrick (Billie Jean) Brown of South Carolina and Rodney Brown of Lansing; five sisters, Judy (James) Hulce of Florida, Rose Sattanino of Italy, Terry (Tim) Schumacher of Lansing, Kelley (Joe) Jacobs of Kentucky, and Dana (Scott) Wood of Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents.
