Caroline Millar Hartman

Caroline Millar Hartman, 89, of Mt. Pleasant died peacefully at home in Mt. Pleasant on August 10, 2003, surrounded by her children. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Caroline was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, on October 28, 1913, to James and Julia (Daly) Millar, and moved with her parents and brother, Peter James to Mt. Pleasant in 1930. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1932, attended Ferris Institute, and worked in Mt. Pleasant for the Gordon Oil Company. It was there that she met Earl G. Hartman, whom she married in Columbus, Ohio, May 29, 1937. Carolines steadfast faith, loyalty to friends, generosity to church and community, love and support of family, and grace in adversity are her legacy to her children: Julie and Donald Klein of East Grand Rapids, Linda Hartman of Allegan, Jessica and Bill Janego of Owosso, Earl G. and Sharon Hartman, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, Marjorie and Doug Kik of East Lansing, and Jim and Amanda Hartman of Long Beach, Mississippi; her grandchildren: Caroline (Mark) Dillon, Donald (Elizabeth) Klein, Jr., Mary Klein (Stephen Diesen), Douglas (JNai) Klein, Daniel (Claire) Klein, Rick (Penny) Ervin, Lynn (Tom) Engle, Chris (Pam) Ervin, Jason Janego, Julia (Tom) Marquardt, Kevin (Sandy) Hartman, Ken (Jennifer) Hartman, Kassandra (David) Lichota, Kirt Hartman, Kiplin Hartman (fiancee, Leslie Jackson), Korey Hartman, Mario Davila, Aaron Kik and Brad Kik; and her 20 great-grandchildren. A sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families also survive her. Caroline was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Catholic Daughters of America, Mt. Pleasant Womens Club, a charter member of Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta, Beta Sigma Phi, and the Isabella Chapter of the DAR.
