Dr. Carolyn Van Cleave, 74, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Friday, September 4, 2020, at Woodland Hospice, with her beloved Marsha by her side. She was born September 26, 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas, daughter of the late Pharon and Winona (Waldron) Van Cleave. Carolyn graduated from Pascal High School in Fort Worth Texas in 1963. She took pride in being a Texan. She graduated from Ball State in 1977 with a doctorate in Psychology. Carolyn moved to Mt. Pleasant and became a tenured faculty member at Central Michigan University in the counseling department. In the mid 1980's she started her own private practice. Carolyn spent decades on her boat in Frankfort, Michigan. She loved to salmon fish and taught many how to fish on her boat. One of her favorite places was to be on Lake Michigan. Carolyn met Marsha Phillips in 2001 and they were married on November 28, 2015 in Mt. Pleasant. They enjoyed cooking and traveling together. Friends were very important to her. She leaves behind her wife Marsha; stepchildren, Dr. Joseph (Mary) Phillips of Hanover, New Hampshire, Brie (Bob) Marks of Allentown, PA. and James Phillips (Angela) of Ferndale, Mi.; grandchildren, Ava and Amia Marks. ; special friends, Kristen Sheridan (Michael Libee) and John Petras (Laura Gourlay) all of Mt. Pleasant. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sharon Van Cleave; and brother, Lt. Col. Walter Van Cleave. Per Carolyn's wishes cremation has taken place and there are no services scheduled at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to Listening Ear (107 Illinois St., Mt Pleasant, Mi., 48858) or charity of your choice.
