Carroll O. Grandon, 91, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Laurels of Mt. Pleasant. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9 with a vigil service beginning at 8 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Carroll was born March 14, 1915, in Bellton, West Virginia, the son of Otis R. and Retta (Brand) Grandon. He married Genevieve (Smolenski) Schmalbach on July 14, 1951 at Sacred Heart. Carroll worked at Roosevelt Oil (now known as Total Petroleum) as a warehouse manager for 42 years before retiring in 1981. He was also an usher at the Broadway Theater in the 1930s. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 touring the European Theater. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Moose Lodge No. 195. Some of his favorite pastimes were collecting old movies, photography, traveling, and gardening. Carroll is survived by two sons, Larry (Janet) Schmalbach of Lake, Jim (Kayla) Schmalbach of Potterville; daughter-in-law, Maureen Schmalbach of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Garnet Wilt of Phoenix, AZ, Ruby Whitcomb of Birmingham, AL, Opal Grandon of Sun City, AZ, and Mary Elizabeth Heinlein of Showlow, AZ. He was preceded by his wife of 54 years, Genevieve in 2005; a son, Michael Mick Schmalbach in 1985; his parents, and two brothers, Kenneth and Jim Grandon.
