Cecelia June Schafer

June Schafer, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at home, with her loving husband Ken, daughter Melissa, and best friends Don and Sheila House at her side. Per Junes wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski presiding and Deacon Larry Fussman assisting. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd. on Monday from 5-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the church or at funeral home. June was born Dec. 19, 1929, in Flint, the daughter of the late Edgar and Mary (Atkinson) Ostrander. A graduate of West Branch High School in 1948, she married Kenneth Schafer on May 10, 1958, at St. Joseph Church in West Branch. June attended North Central School Of Practical Nurse Education in Petoskey, MI and received her LPN degree. She later went on to attended MJ Murphy Beauty School in Mt. Pleasant, MI when Mr. Murphy owned it and received her Cosmetology degree. June was a sales representative and enjoyed selling Sarah Coventry Jewelry and Avon for years receiving several President Club awards. In her early years she worked as an LPN and licensed cosmetologist. She was past president of the Licensed Practical Nurses Association for Clare and Mt. Pleasant and had the honor of being a stay-at-home Mom, raising her two daughters. She was a proud member of Sacred Heart Parish and a golden girl of the Red Hat Chapter Crafty Nurse Mates . Some of her favorite pastimes were traveling and playing the slots (donating more than winning). She was fortunate enough to travel all 50 states and Canadas Providences (minus one) with her loving husband and best friends, Don and Sheila House. June is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Ken; two daughters, Kimberley Wheeler of Sanford, Melissa (Duane Krueger) Schafer of Sanford; three grandchildren, Elisha (David Jr.) Daymon, Noah Schafer, and Joshua Wheeler; four great-granddaughters, Darbyi, Paisley, Kayleigh, and Taylor; two brothers, Edwin (Yvonne) Ostrander of West Branch and Dallas (Phyllis) Ostrander of West Branch; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Mary (Atkinson) Ostrander; and infant brother, Milton Ostrander.
