Charlene Sue Hubbell (Himebaugh)

Charlene Hubbell, 75, of Mt. Pleasant passed away unexpectantly on April 17, 2023, at McLaren in Flint, MI. Char passed only three days before her birthday.  She was born the baby of the family on April 20, 1947, daughter of the late Clifford and Allegra (Raymond) Himebaugh.  Char grew up on a farm in Winn and graduated with the class of 1965 from Blanchard High School.  She went on to earn cosmetology license from MJ Murphy and began doing hair in Mt Pleasant before opening Char's Beauty Shop in Winn, her hometown.  In 1987 Char began a new career at CMU cooking in the kitchen for all the students.  She married the love of her life, John K. Hubbell on February 14, 1987, in Blanchard.  Char loved the water.  Char and Ken spent years looking for just the right spot to build their home and found it on the Chippewa River.  Char loved walking the beaches of Florida and spending summers at the Mullett Lake Cottage.  She loved working in her flower beds, cooking meals and deer hunting.  Char also loved people and people loved her. She enjoyed traveling and went on her trip of a lifetime to Alaska.  She was proud of her membership to the American Legion Auxiliary in Blanchard.  She will be missed by many. Char is survived by her husband, Ken Hubbell; children, Amy (Dick) Baker of Blanchard, Kenny (Kim) Hubbell of Colorado, Christopher (Heidi) Hubbell of Florida, and Mike (Kristine) McCarthy of Edmore; grandchildren, Ryan Baker and Danial McCarthy; siblings, Roger (Carol) Himebaugh of Winn and Carolyn (Jean) McCarthy of Dewitt.  She is preceded in death by both parents; brother, Max Himebaugh; in-laws, Bud and Lucille Hubbell; and grandson, Jonathan McCarthy.    Char will be so happy to be spending her birthday in Heaven with Jonny this year.  Smile on Mom. A Funeral Mass for Char will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Fred Kawka as celebrant. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7:00 p.m. with a vigil and a time for sharing memories beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday one hour prior to mass. Immediately following all are invited to Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home) for a meal. Interment will follow at the Union Cemetery in Fremont Twp.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary in Blanchard. (PO Box 14, Blanchard, MI 49310).
