Charles A. Reed, 96, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Monday, August 27, 2007, at the Prestige Centre where he has resided for the last two years. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 1, at Lux Funeral Home with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 3-7 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service begins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or to the charity of choice. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Charles was born March 14, 1911, in Riga Township, to Harry and Emma (Wotring) Reed. He graduated from Blissfield High School in 1929 and was very active in baseball, basketball and football. He later married Vera M. (Wright-Donoghue) on June 9, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church. He worked in New York for six years delivering cars to New York and Baltimore docks for exporting. In 1943 he came to Mt. Pleasant for a vacation, then returned to stay. He worked many jobs over the years, including Taylor Brothers for 27 years retiring in 1975, then doing security for Ferros and Morbark until 1986. Charles was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Mt. Pleasant Bowlers Hall of Fame in October 1988. He also enjoyed golfing, playing euchre and watching sports on TV. He became a life member of the Moose Lodge #195 in 1999 after 50 years of membership and participated in events until the spring of 2007. Charles is survived by Veras three sons by a prior marriage and together Charles and Vera had three children; Martin Reed of New Market, AL, Diana (Phillip) Eaton, Avon, IN, Retired US Major Glen (Janet) Donoghue of Huntsville, AL, Dr. Dennis (Linda) Donoghue of Boise, ID and Dr. Patrick (Sharon) Donoghue of Porter Ranch, CA; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Bessie Marie (Reed) Bourland. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Vera in 1999; infant daughter, Mary Ann in 1957; step-grandson, Timothy Donoghue in 2001; one sister Adah (Reed) Johnson; and two brothers Woodrow and Archie Reed.
