Charles Johnson, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Central Michigan Community Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday one hour prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Academy Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Charles was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Weidman, the son of the late Charles E. and Catherine (Lambert) Johnson. He attended Weidman School, entering the U.S. Army in 1941. He served in the South Pacific in the 41st Division until honorably discharged in 1945. He married Betty Powell on Aug. 2, 1947, at Sacred Heart Church. He was employed by Pure Oil Co., Hostess Cake and later owned and operated Charlies Total Service in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Knights of Columbus and Moose Lodge. He and his wife delivered meals for several years for the Commission on Aging. He enjoyed playing cards, was a wine maker, and a good cook. Charlie is survived by his wife, Betty of Mt. Pleasant; seven children, Tim (Jan) Johnson of Grand Rapids, Bill Johnson of Grosse Pointe Park, John (Suzie) Johnson of Okemos, Pat Johnson of Lake Isabella, Anne Smith of Farwell, Jane (Phil) Milan of Tempe, AZ and Kathleen Bagley of Traverse City; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Jean Powell of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Pierce and Marion VanNess; and three brothers, Howard, Gerald and Fey Johnson.
