Charles Kay Lucas, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, died May 19, 2009, making his escape from the hospital after a brief stay within those walls; his preference was to spend his last hours in his own home, surrounded by family and friends. He accomplished this with grace, dignity, and a little help from those friends. His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 28, at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., with the Rev. Nancy Casey Fulton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Woodland Hospice, without whom his journey home would have been less peaceful and comfortable. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. A decorated World War II veteran, he was a man of humor, generosity, courage, and determination. Rarely speaking of his time in the service, he focused, instead, on the here and now and what lay ahead. He was well loved and will be sorely missed. Charles is survived by his wife of 55 years, Katherine; sons, Stephen Charles (Beth Anne) Lucas and Charles Kirk (Melanie) Lucas, both of Blanchard; his daughter, Jennifer Kay Lucas of Blanchard; four grandchildren, Neal, Taran, Eyra, and Lily; sister, Eris Primm of Ocala, FL; and sister-in-law, Harriet Lucas of Oklahoma. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Edwin Lucas; and sister, Rebecca McEvoy.
