Charles Scheffner, 61, of Riverdale passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 at his home. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 4 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the Mass begins at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Charles was born Nov. 4, 1945 in Libertyville, IL, the son of Leroy and Dolores (Schuster) Scheffner. He married Karen Schubert on Sept. 9, 1967 at Visitation Parish in Bay City. He graduated from Libertyville High School in 1963 and received his masters degree in forestry from Michigan Tech. University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970. He has lived in Riverdale for three years, Huron City for the previous 22 years, and Garden, Houghton, Thailand and Germany before that. He was currently employed at Alma True Value Hardware. He was Director of Museums at Huron City Museums and interpreter for seven years at Fayette State Park. At Huron City he was president of the Huron County Council of Chambers of Commerce, on the zoning and planning board of Huron Township, Thumb Area Transit Board, and a founding member of the United States Life-Saving Service Heritage Association. His great joy was helping people. Charles is survived by his wife, Karen of Riverdale; and his sister, Margaret and her husband, George Dinklenburg of Libertyville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
