Charles Andrew Wentworth

On July 29, 2024, Charles Wentworth passed away in Midland, Michigan. Born October 2, 1937, in Rosebush, Michigan to Sylvester and Mable Wentworth, Charles, who went by Chuck led an extremely full and active life. From a young age, Chuck knew the value of hard work and owning your own business. Chuck owned and operated various businesses in the Mount Pleasant area of Michigan. Some of the companies he owned and operated in the area included Sealtest Dairy Mill, Mobile Feed Mill, Big Boy Toys Sporting Goods, and the IGA Store in both Midland and Mount Pleasant, Michigan. In the late 1970's Chuck then began a very successful career building, owning and operating hotels. It started in Houghton Lake, Michigan building the first Holidome Holiday Inn in Michigan. There he met and married Sue Starks and together, they began a life adventure of working hard, playing hard and building a legacy. During that time, he built the Econo Lodge in Traverse City, Michigan and the Baymont in Traverse City and together, Chuck and Sue owned and operated each hotel. Chuck had a keen eye in creating and building unique projects. When he had Wentworth Construction Company, Chuck built various medical facilities throughout the state of Michigan. Where his keen eye came in is in his building of homes that he and Sue lived in. From Houghton Lake to Traverse City to Merritt Michigan, to Swan Valley, Idaho and then seasonally to Ocala, Florida, where he built a couple of horse farms. With a commanding view of the valley, Chuck's talent in woodworking came out in the magnificent staircase he built and detail to the high beamed ceilings and wrap around deck. Each property was distinctive in their design and special features. His latest crowning glory is the 60-acre property in Deford, Michigan, which is a peaceful retreat meticulously cared for with beautiful landscaping, flowers, trees, pond and themed seating areas to enjoy the varied wildlife that call this property home. Always active until the end, Chuck's talent showed in his love of wood working and with love building items for his beloved family. The standout success in Chuck's life is his family. He built a legacy of family and within the family taught them all a work ethic that few possess. In times of happiness and in times of sadness, his family all come together like few do. Chuck is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sue Starks Wentworth and his first wife and friend Betty Wentworth. He leaves behind six children who reflect his love of life which includes Kathy Thomas (husband Lionel), Chuck, Christy (husband Tim), Mary ( husband Steve) Judy ( husband Bill) and John. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. His hobbies include his love of golf, cards, hiking, hunting, woodworking and enjoyed traveling the world with his family. Chuck was larger than life and his impact on people will carry on for generations to come. There will be a private celebration of life.
