Chester Earl Colton, age 83, of Mecosta passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014. Our loving husband and father went to visit the Lord after a very painful battle.
Chet was born on July 12, 1931 to Floyd and Esther (Rathke) Colton in Monroe, MI.Chet served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1953. He married Nancy Martin on October 18, 1977 in Dearborn and they celebrated 36 years of marriage together.He was the owner of Horsehead Lake Marina for the past 30 years. He was a member the American Legion. Chet enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and bird watching but his most favorite pastime was working at the Marina.
Chet will always be loved and missed by his wife Nancy Colton; children, Linda K. (Bobby) Murray, Valarie R. Smallwood, Anthony W. (Lynn) Colton, Penny S. (Monte) McManaway, Theresa J. Colton, Nancy J. Russell, and adopted children; Harry W. Smallwood, Burt Phillips and Bruce and Cathy Sutherland;14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Wilma Weiss; and ex-wife, Shirley.
Chet was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Annette; son-in-law, Larry Smallwood and sister, Arleen.
A Memorial Service for Chet is scheduled for Wednesday, August, 20, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the VFW Hall in Mecosta with Pastor Bob Carpenter officiating.
