Chester E. Reid, 88, of Mt. Pleasant died Sunday, December 28, 2003 at Tendercare in Mt. Pleasant. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation or to Community Cancer Services. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Chester was born March 27, 1915, in Isabella County, the son of Joshua and Louisa (Gauier) Reid. He married Ruth Mead on Feb. 26, 1938, in Mt. Pleasant. He was a dairy farmer most of his life. From 1968 until his retirement in 1980 he was a custodian at the Regional Center for Developmental Disabilities. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Parish and enjoyed horseshoes, and playing the harmonica and the fiddle. Chester is survived by three daughters, Alice Reid of Mt. Pleasant, Jeanette Inman of Carmel, IN and Linda Reid of Mt. Pleasant; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Ervin OBrien of Grand Ledge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 1986; daughter, Jane Barr in 2002; three brothers, Elmer, Gordon and Gilbert; and four sisters, Florence Grandon, Imogene Doerfer, Mary Seiter, and Alice OBrien.
