Cindy Diann (Funk) Salem

Cindy Diann Salem, 72, of Mt. Pleasant, MI, was called to her heavenly home on March 16, 2024, after bravely contending with a long illness. She entered this life on June 23, 1951, in Lagrange, IN, the treasured daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Betty) Funk. Cindy's heart found its match in Jack Salem, whom she wed in holy matrimony on July 26, 1975, in Buchanan, MI. Their blessed union was the bedrock upon which they built their life in Mt. Pleasant, MI.

A proud alumna of Buchanan High School and Central Michigan University, Cindy answered her calling as a dedicated educator. She imparted wisdom and nurtured countless young minds at Mt. Pleasant High School, a vocation she fulfilled with love and exuberance. Mrs. Salem was revered not only for her academic guidance but for the profound personal investment she made in the futures of her students.

In the sanctuary of her personal life, Cindy cherished the voyage of exploration through travel, cultivated beauty in her garden, and reveled in the joys of family life. Her affection for animals was profound, and her enthusiasm as a devotee of the Detroit Tigers knew no bounds.

A beacon of love and selflessness, Cindy was a pillar of strength and support in her children's endeavors, imbuing them with confidence and resilience.

She leaves to honor her memory, her devoted husband of nearly five decades, Jack Salem; her daughter Amy Lloyd and son-in-law Bryan, along with grandchildren Nicholas, Jillian, and Addison McKean; her son Andrew Salem, and grandchildren Jacob and Drew Salem. Cindy's legacy is also celebrated by a host of friends, former pupils, and colleagues. She reunites in eternal peace with her sister Janet Racht and her parents.

Cindy's life exemplified compassion, dedication, and a fervent desire to sow seeds of growth in every soul she encountered. Though her physical presence is absent, her spirit continues to inspire. Cindy was also a proud member of the First United Church in Mt. Pleasant.

A celebration commemorating Cindy's life will be held at a future date. Her family invites those who were touched by Cindy's generous spirit to join in honoring a life so beautifully lived.
