Clara Mae Quillen, aged 99, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 28, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 30, 1925, in Beal City, Michigan, Clara was the cherished daughter of the late Charles A. and Anna M. (Thielen) Schafer. A graduate of Beal City High School, Clara went on to marry Joseph Martin Quillen on January 31, 1948, at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Beal City. Clara dedicated 20 years of her career to the Mt. Pleasant State Home, where she retired as a supervisor in 1988. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, as she was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Parish and a former member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish. She was actively involved in the Council of Catholic Women at St. Joseph Parish and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Clara had a passion for crocheting, traveling and playing cards, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will be cherished by all who knew her. Clara is survived by her children, Linda (Sid) Lundquist of Lansing, Martin (Connie) Quillen of Clio, Charles Quillen of Mt. Pleasant, and Joseph Quillen of Dimondale; six grandchildren, Kevin (Danielle) Lundquist, Ross (Nicole) Lundquist, and Ryan (Gina) Lundquist, George (Kari) Quillen, Frank (Jacky) Quillen, and Glen Quillen; six great grandchildren, Landry, Eva, Grant, Winston, Jake and Abby; three brothers, Steve (Irene) Schafer, Philip (Judy) Schafer, and Willard (Shirley) Schafer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three children, William Quillen, Brenda Quillen, and Rebecca Quillen; and brothers, Bernie Schafer, Eugene Schafer, and Virgil Schafer; and sisters, Dolores Frick, Theresa Clark, and infant sister, Martha. A Funeral Mass for Clara will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, January 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Andy Booms will preside. A luncheon will follow at Lincoln Reception Center, concluding with the Rite of Committal at St. Joseph Cemetery in Beal City. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. with the Vigil Service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church or VFW Post 3033. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
