Constance Ruth Erler was born on June 11, 1937 in Reed City, Michigan, to the late Victor and Celia Ruth (Hayward) Erler. Although she was an only child, Connie was never alone as she had the gift of creating friendships with whomever she met. So much that, a deep and everlasting bond with some of her childhood and high school friends remain today and she considers those friends her sisters. She belonged to the same bridge club for forty some odd years building friendships that were beyond the norm. In forty years, it became a "family." They boastfully called themselves the "Goren Group" and were pretty much recognized by that name. She also spent most of her adult life on golf leagues at Mt Pleasant Country Club where acquaintances became very close friends. Sweet Connie, as she was sometimes called, was liked by all and admired by many. Recently, her coworkers at Coldwell Banker Mt. Pleasant Realty honored her by dedicating a conference room in their new office to her. She was extremely touched and honored to see her name above the door at the Grand Opening. In 2005 Connie was awarded the George D. Noch leadership award by the MI Board of Realtors Association. Connie went to Mt. Pleasant High School then Central Michigan College (University) and earned a Bachelors of Art degree in Education. During college she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. She went on to become an elementary teacher at Kinney School, librarian, flight attendant, and entrepreneur owning an art gallery and starting Kopy Korner copy center in Mt Pleasant. This entrepreneurial spirit stemmed from her parents who owned several grocery stores including Vics Shop Rite (presently Rics Food Center). She later sold real estate at Coldwell Banker Mt. Pleasant Realty. Days after college graduation on June 13, 1959, Connie married her high school sweetheart Edward D. Ososki at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant. During their 25 years of marriage they produced three lovely daughters who survive her; Darra (Stan) Slanec of Clinton Township, MI, Dana (Todd) Brown of McKinney, TX, Debra (Tony) Lutz of Grand Rapids, MI along with four grandchildren Shea and Sawyer Slanec and Tanner and Erika Brown. Connies overflowing and unconditional love for her girls and grand kids was immeasurable. Later in life Connie was fortunate enough to meet her soul mate the late Al Sommerville. Als family became her second family and remained very important throughout her life. Our lives are filled with clichs but the one that totally fits Connie is: "It is not the years you put into your life - it is the life you put into your years". Connies energy was contagious. She lived her life to the fullest never afraid to try anything from white water rafting to survival camping in Colorado. She was always active. She played tennis, golf; she loved hiking (which Al and she did often), biking, skiing, and any other outdoor activity especially walking the beach at her cottage on Lake Michigan. Connie also enjoyed art and couldnt pass up a colorful painting at the many festivals she would go to with friends. Connie had a loving smile, a determined spirit, immeasurable loyalty and a generous heart. She remained pleasant and steadfast, never complaining or asking why me through her long bout with ALS. She just accepted it and dealt with it with class and humor, which was always her style. She will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace Mom, Grandma, and Friend.
