Cora Neyer, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and formerly of Dublin, Ireland, passed away Monday, January 30, 2023, at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant. Cora, the eldest of six children, was born July 17, 1935, in Dublin, Ireland, daughter of the late Henry and Eileen (Coughlan) Doyle. In time she welcomed her younger siblings into the home: Doreen, Brian, Eileen, Maureen, and Patricia. Besides being a wonderful babysitter to her younger siblings, Cora was an accomplished artist, winning many awards. She graduated from St. Joseph's Convent School on Mountjoy Street, in Dublin, Ireland. As was common of that time, Cora attended business school learning various practices such as shorthand and typing. After moving to Spain at the age of 21, Cora taught English to two children of Spanish royalty. While in Spain, she met the love of her life, John F. "Jack" Neyer, who was serving in the U.S. Air Force at the time. After a courtship, the couple married on May 7, 1960, in Dublin, Ireland. Cora and Jack settled in Jack's hometown of Mt. Pleasant where she worked as a secretary in administration at Central Michigan University from 1960 until the birth of their son, John H. Neyer in 1968. Cora embraced her new community. She became a member of Sacred Heart Parish, joined the Women's City Club and Tourist Club, and faithfully volunteered for over 30 years in the Ladies Auxiliary at Central Michigan Community Hospital. Cora is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jack; granddaughters, Emma and Sophie; sisters, Eileen (Bill) Rush of The Villages, FL, Maureen Smith of London, England, and Patricia O'Doherty of Dublin, Ireland; in-law, Rosee McFarlane, Ann Neyer, Ken (Diane) Neyer, Jane (Mike) Bacon, Patty (Mike) Gostola; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John H. Neyer; sister, Doreen Bissett; brother, Brian Doyle; and brother in-law, Jerry McFarlane and Bob Neyer. A Memorial Mass for Cora will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday May 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 23, from 5-7 p.m. with the Vigil Service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a gift to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Sacred Heart Academy Foundation. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Isabella County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care that was given to Cora during her time there.
