Dan Edward Moeggenberg

Dan Moeggenberg, 77, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.  Dan was born on March 30, 1946, in St. Louis, Michigan, son of the late Edward and Edith (Richmond) Moeggenberg.  Dan proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1969. He was employed by Consumers Energy in Charlevoix, retiring as an Engineering Supervisor.  He married Carolyn Steinman on August 4, 1990, in Charlevoix.  They moved from Petoskey to Mt. Pleasant in 1998.  Dan was a member of the VFW in Shepherd.  He loved building, especially working with wood. His love of farming produced an abundance of vegetables and flowers. More than anything, Dan loved his family. His grandchildren considered him to be the "Best Grandfather". He will be greatly missed by his wife, Carolyn; children, Angela (Tom) Barton, Ben (Madga) Moeggenberg, and Jamie Moeggenberg, all of Perry; extra children, Cheri Vallance of Charlevoix and Stephen Mellios of Traverse City; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Arsalant of Pennsylvania; brother, Ted (Bev) Moeggenberg of Alma; in-laws, Nola Moeggenberg of Alma and Helen Murphy of Bath; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen Smith-Moeggenberg; extra son, Nicholas Mellios; and three siblings, Ken Moeggenberg, Rod Moeggenberg, and Dean Moeggenberg.  Per Dan's wishes, cremation has taken place at Memorial Fields Crematory and a private family memorial will be held on a future date.
