Dave was born April 3, 1952, in Marquette, MI, son of the late Peter and Anna (St. James) Ellis. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1971, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy that same year and received an honorable discharge. On April 27, 1973, he married Kathy DeLong at Sacred Heart Church. Dave was employed as a Direct Care Aide at the Mt. Pleasant Center from 1976 until his retirement in 2002. He loved the Beatles and playing the guitar. But his first passion was art. He was commissioned by many businesses and homeowners in Isabella County to feature their properties on canvas. He also created many tropical pieces of art. Dave fulfilled his dream of living in the Villages in Florida for two years before he moved back to Michigan in the Spring of 2016. Florida was a special place for Dave and he visited Disney World too many times to count. Dave is survived by his wife, Kathy of Mt. Pleasant; two children, Tracie (Rolan) Garcia of Coleman and Gary Ellis of Johnson City, TN; three grandchildren who meant the world to him, Braeden Garcia, and Ashton and Carmen Ellis; siblings, Bette (Chris) Yost of Alma, Joe Pete (Linda) Ellis of Marquette, and Bonnie (Tom) ONeil of Marquette; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
