David Neyer, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility with his family by his side. Dave was born May 7, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, son of the late Frank and Edna (Martz) Neyer and welcomed into the home by his elder sister, Mary Ann. He was later joined by his younger siblings, James, Ginny, Bill, and Tim. Dave began farming with his father and three brothers at a young age. A 1961 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, Dave married the love of his life, Carol Schafer, on February 8, 1964, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City. Once married, Dave and Carol worked side by side on the family farm where they taught their children the value of a hard day's work and how to be productive as a team. In 1975, Dave established Neyer Farms, Inc., along with his brothers, Bill, and Tim. The tradition of Neyer Farms is now in the care of Dave's son and grandchild. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Parish (serving as eucharistic minister), a lifetime member of Farm Bureau, and former Isabella County Commissioner. He was highly involved with the Isabella County Fair (Fair Board Member, Livestock Producer, and Dairy Booster Member) and was instrumental in the construction of the current fairgrounds. Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Of all his accomplishments, he was incredibly proud of the achievements made by his four children and 12 grandchildren throughout their lives. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 59 ½ years, Carol; children, Jerry (Joyce) Neyer, Brenda (Martin) O'Brien, Bryan (Yvonne) Neyer, and Ronald (Christine) Neyer; grandchildren, Tori (Thomas), Joshua (Allyssa), Bo, Hannah (Jared), Dustin, Brendan, Hayley (Jordan), Sam, Austin (Katelyn), Heidie, Thomas, and Drew; great grandchildren, Willow, Harper, Kira, Emersen, and Daemon; siblings, Mary Ann Woltz, James (Rose) Neyer, Ginny (LeRoy) Withey, Bill (Mary Jo) Neyer, and Tim (JoAnn) Neyer; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank, and Edna Neyer; infant son, Patrick Francis Neyer; and brother in-law, Bud Woltz. A Funeral Mass for Dave will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant. Following the Mass, all are invited to a luncheon at Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). Dave will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7:30 p.m. with the Vigil Service and time for sharing beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker School or to the Wishlist at Sacred Heart Academy. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
