David Rice, 68, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 at McLaren Central Michigan. A Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7 at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Larry Fussman presiding. A luncheon will be held immediately after at the Lincoln Reception Center (Next to Charles R. Lux Funeral Home). Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Friday, April 6, from 4-8 p.m. with the Vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of family. David was born August 11, 1949, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late Roderick and Marguerite (McDonald) Rice. David enlisted in the United States Marines at the age of 18. He sustained disabling injuries while faithfully serving his country, earning him a Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, USMC Marksman Rifle Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 device (foreign) Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross medal Color with Palm, foreign) and Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Civil Actions Medal, First Class Color with Palm, foreign). Even with his physical limitation David owned several businesses. During one of these business endeavors he met his soon to be loving wife Pat. David married Pat in Mt. Pleasant on August 28, 2009. David was a colorful man that was open minded. He enjoyed writing, playing guitar, singing and creating music. He loved traveling and gaining new experiences. He was always willing to help anyone in need whether it be human or animal. David is survived by his beloved wife Pat and seven children, Sara of MI, Cassiopia Rice of Grand Rapids, Amparo (Steven) Davy of Morley, Zebulon (Cate) Rice of Lakeview, Bram (Samantha) Rice of Lake Isabella; Step Children, Preshus Mixon of Owings Mills, MD, and Melvin Mixon II of Greensboro, NC. Siblings; Mark (Marcia) Rice of Mt. Pleasant and Carol Shaw of Elwell, Mike Soriano of San Diego and Keith Brooks of Midland; and 11 Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gary Rice and Nicolas Rice and sister, Teresa Hansen.
