Dennis R. Netzley

Dennis Netzley, 69, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at home, surrounded by his family. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., with Pastor George Eagle of Isabella Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or Woodland Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Dennis was born Sept. 17, 1940, in Elwell, the son of Maynard and Lois (Fairchild) Netzley. A graduate of St. Louis High School in 1958, Dennis married Barbara Walker on Jan. 10, 1959, in Breckenridge. He also attended North Central Community College in Petoskey. He was employed as the manager of the meat department for Giant stores for over 30 years, retiring in 1996. Dennis enjoyed hunting waterfowl with his sons and friend, Dick Schmidt. He bowled with his wife for several years on the Consumers Power couples league. He was an avid Tigers and Pistons fan. He had many friends and he was always there for them when needed. He was good at working with his hands as a meat-cutter and used his skills to help family and friends process their deer, fish or other animals. He is the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Dennis loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. His grandchildren and great-grandson were the apples of his eye. Dennis is survived by his wife, Barbara of Mt. Pleasant; three children, Marie Netzley, Gary Netzley and Alan Netzley, all of Mt. Pleasant; three grandchildren, Caitlyn (Ryan) Flowers, Marissa Netzley and Lars Netzley; great grandson, Lane Flowers; parents, Maynard and Lois Netzley of St. Louis; and a sister, Rochelle (Ken) Ruedger of Alma.
