Diane Esther Marvel, 70, passed away at Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospital on November 1, 2026. Born on December 5, 1955, to the late Jack and Marilynn Marvel.
Diane — She Did It Her Way
March to the beat of her own drum, and always sparkle. That was Diane. She did things her way, sprinkling joy, laughter, and her own special kind of sparkle wherever life took her.
After high school, Diane followed her passion for fashion, cosmetology, and hair. She completed her schooling and went straight into working in high-fashion salons. She absolutely loved her career and the world of beauty until she discovered another passion: traveling.
Diane loved adventure! She traveled throughout the United States by planes, trains, and even hitchhiking. No matter how she got there, it was always an adventure. That was Diane’s way of living life.
After her traveling adventures, Diane moved up north to be closer to family. Settling near the ranch, she embraced country life.
Diane loved gardening, nature, animals, and spending time outdoors. One of her greatest loves was horseback riding. She had been riding horses since the age of four and continued riding and cutting horses alongside her dad, son, and brother David.
Diane was a very smart woman and a gifted writer. She had a wonderful sense of humor and could make people laugh. She also discovered an unexpected talent for painting, something that even surprised her! Diane had many sides to her, and she never stopped discovering new things about herself.
But above all, Diane’s greatest pride and joy was her son, Colby. He held a very special place in her heart, and being his mom was one of the most meaningful parts of her life.
Diane is survived by her son, Colby Marvel of Grand Rapids; her siblings, Denise (Nick) Aho of Rodney, Z. Darrell (Patti) Marvel of Big Rapids, and David (Pam) Marvel of Rodney; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS).
A graveside service for Diane will be held at 11 am on Thursday, November 5, at Riverside Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, with Rabbi Matthew Kaufman officiating.
