Donald Bissell, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. A Funeral Mass for Don will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the Vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Athletic Association, Woodland Hospice or the Mt. Pleasant Soup Kitchen. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Don was born Jan. 17, 1934 in Shepherd, son of the late Lloyce and Iva (Cluley) Bissell. He graduated from Shepherd High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. On October 1, 1960, he married Geraldine Epple at St. Charles Church in Leaton. He was employed by the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources as a Land Surveyor for 27 years, retiring in 1990. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish and Knights of Columbus Council 1297. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and attending local and CMU sporting events. Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gerri; two children, Steve (Lori) Bissell of Mt. Pleasant and Rebekah (Kirk) Hansen of Ypsilanti; one granddaughter, Anya Hansen; five siblings, Lucile Prout of Rosebush, Bill (Dorothy) Bissell of Missouri, Dorothy Devore of Alma, Es (Frank) Westmoreland of Humble, TX and Ron (Carol) Bissell of Vestaburg; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Russell; and infant sister, Alma.
