Donald Peddie, 77, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022, at home peacefully with his family by his side. Donald was born July 8, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Frank and Ruth (Kall) Peddie. He graduated from Brooklyn High School in Ohio in 1962 and where he was also inducted into the school's hall of fame. Donald continued as a student athlete at the University of Miami, Ohio, and was named captain of the football team led by his coach, Bo Schembechler. He graduated with his bachelor's degree in 1966 and on August 6 of that year, married the love of his life, Barbara King, in Parma Heights, Ohio. He would eventually earn his master's degree and move to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 1970 to embark on a remarkable 41-year career as an educator and 30-year stint as a coach, both at Central Michigan University. He retired in 2011. His coaching at CMU was highlighted by the many memories made with players and coaches, conference championships and the 1974 National Football Championship. Coach Peddie and the team were inducted into the CMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019. He continued coaching at Mt. Pleasant High School from 1988 - 1997. While coaching at Mt. Pleasant Don established a lifetime friendship with Dave Schwartz, now Athletic Director at Essexville Garber. Traveling, fitness, spending time at the cottage, time by the pool and time spent with every family member was cherished. Following the sporting achievements of grandchildren Hunter, Logan, Chase and Avari were supported with the words "Do your Best". Visiting brothers Roger and Phil was always special. Summer getaways with his "Brooklyn Gang" was a summer highlight. Above all, his 55 plus years of marriage with Barb, or as he would call her "Butch" was his greatest accomplishment (love and friendship). Donald is survived by his wife Barbara; children, Dawn Peddie of Mt. Pleasant, and Jade (Heather) Peddie of Zeeland; grandchildren, Hunter Buczkowski, Logan Buczkowski, Chase Peddie, and Avari Peddie; brothers, Roger Peddie and Phil Peddie, both of Ohio; and close friends, Dave Schwarts, Jim McColgan, Charlie Stewart, and Harry Plouff. Donald was preceded in death by both parents. Cremation has taken place. Please join the family in a casual Celebration of Life for Donald. Monday, March 14, from 5-8 p.m. at Lincoln Reception Center (attached to Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home). Memorial contributions may be made to the football program through Central Michigan University's Athletic Department. Envelopes will be available at the reception center.
