Donald Schumacher, 86, of Beal City passed away Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland, surrounded by his loving family. A Funeral Mass for Don will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City with Father Thomas J. McNamara presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends in the gathering room of the church on Sunday from 3-8 p.m. with the Vigil service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues on Monday one hour prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker School or the Beal City Sports Boosters. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Don was born Dec. 24, 1928, in Isabella County, son of the late John and Helen (Zeien) Schumacher. A graduate of Beal City High School in 1946, he married Geraldine Thorp on Jan. 3, 1953 at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Beal City. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, the Beal City Knights of Columbus Council 3651, Beal City School Board for 12 years, Isabella County Dairy Boosters, and a board member of Michigan Milk Producers Association. Some of his favorite pastimes were traveling, golfing, attending sporting events of his grandchildren, playing cards, having coffee with his friends, and exercising at the Wellness Center. But above all, Don enjoyed spending time with his family. Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Geraldine; six children, Steve (Betty) Schumacher of Lake Isabella, Kathy (Bob) Brzak of East Jordan, Rodney (Cindy) Schumacher of Beal City, Carolyn (Tim Aeschliman) Miller of Beaverton, Nancy Flaugher of Beal City, and Dave Schumacher of Beal City; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brother, Harley (Katie) Schumacher of Grand Haven; sister-in-law, Florence Schumacher of Rosebush; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Kyle Schumacher in 1983; and two brothers, Marvin and Keith Schumacher; and sister-in-law Patricia Schumacher.
