Donald Wilmot, 68, of Lake Isabella, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020, at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland, the family is very grateful for the stellar care he received there. Don was born August 3, 1952, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, son of the late Donald James and Elizabeth Ann (Sheldon) Wilmot. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1971 and enlisted in the U.S. Army, having attained the rank of sergeant. He was a sharp shooter of the M-16 and received the National Defense Service Medal. Don was employed by Knapheide Truck Equipment Center as a welding inspector and fabricator, retiring in 2014. He was both a Ford and state certified master mechanic, having been a long-term employee at Al Bennett Ford of Davison. Some of Don's favorite pastimes were woodworking, especially making gifts for his beloved wife, Marie, and gardening with her. Don's trip in 2012 to visit his daughter Melissa at her home in Whidbey Island, WA was a very happy memory for him. He also enjoyed fishing with his stepson, Peter Lannen and spending time with family, especially his sister, Sandy and nieces, Shelby and Sarah. Special thanks to Jaime Dunlap for his devotion to Don. Mr. Wilmot became a member of Sacred Heart Parish in 2017 when he and his sister in-law, Mary Anne Tompkins, shared the joy of RCIA courses at the parish and became fully Roman Catholic at the Easter Vigil that year, Don was most grateful for her sisterly caring. He and his wife made a peaceful, quiet haven for themselves at Lake Isabella, away from noise, chaos and drama. Don is survived by his wife, Marie (Lannen); daughter, Melissa (Dale) Greenwood of Sedro Wooley, WA; siblings, Mary Victoria (John) Ryckman of Lansing; Sandra Scutt of Mt. Pleasant, David (Pamela Burton) Wilmot of Mt. Pleasant, Myra (Andrew) Anderson of Remus, and Roxanne Wilmot (Scott Miller) of New Hudson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his late wife, Sherry Roxanne (Morey) Wilmot; and brother, Dewain. Cremation has taken place. He will be interred with an honor guard at Great Lakes National Cemetery on October 23 at 2 PM. No future services are planned.
