Dorothy M. "Dottie" Corbin Sweeney

Dottie Sweeney, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at Central Michigan Community Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski presiding. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., on Wednesday from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday one hour prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or church. Dottie was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Midland County, the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Murphy) Dean. A graduate of Midland High School in 1938, Dottie attended Nursing School at St. Marys Hospital in Saginaw. She married William F. Corbin in 1951. After his death in 1979, she married Robert F. Sweeney in 1983. She was employed by Central Michigan University as a secretary for 10 years. She also worked as a secretary in the oil business. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, former member of the Mt. Pleasant County Club, and an avid bridge player. Dottie is survived by six beloved step-children, Robert (Joyce) Sweeney of Highland, Susan (Art) Steele of Brighton, Frank (Carol) Sweeney of Mt. Pleasant, Kathleen (Michael) Bulger of Cadillac, Maureen MacGillivray of Mt. Pleasant, and Margaret (James) Fellinger of Ada; one step-son-in-law, Dennis Dubay of Troy; sister-in-law, Margaret Dean of Long Island, NY; 14 loving step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; and 37 wonderful, loving nieces and nephews. Dottie had no favorites; they were all loved equally. The family also wishes to recognize Dotties close friends, Betty and Mary Lynne Huber, Kelly Buck, Lois and Jim Sheppard, Barb Archey, Sheila Crafton, and Robin and Art Barr. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Corbin (1979) and Robert Sweeney (2006); step-daughter, Mary Ann Dubay (2007); four brothers, John Jack Dean, Albert Dean, Richard Dean and Joseph Dean; and two sisters, Isabel Catlett and Mary Engle.
