Dorothy A. Stressman

Dorothy A. Stressman, 71, of Mt. Pleasant died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation continues at the church on Saturday from 9-10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or to Scotty Rescue. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Dorothy was born August 30, 1931, in Aldershot, England, the daughter of Charles Alonzo and Mildred Ellen (Pryor) Mears. She married John W. Stressman Jr. on June 9, 1951 in Middlesex, England. She retired from Central Michigan University in 1994 where she held various positions in the university center. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Catholic Daughters. She loved Scottish Terriers, especially Angus and Charlie. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, having a cuppa tea and the Detroit Red Wings. Dorothy is survived by six children, John (Phyllis) Stressman of Jackson and their children Jacob and Katie; Richard (Georgia) Stressman of Jackson and their children Mark and Molly; Steven (Robin) Stressman of Mt. Pleasant and their children, Jennifer, Steven II, William Ryan and Jessica; Patricia (Derrick) Smigiel of Highland and their daughters, Kristin and Lauren; Robert (Brenda) Stressman of Shepherd and their children, Nicholas, Shawn, Troy, and Brandon; and Peter (Julie) Stressman of Lake Orion and their children, Erica, John, Nora and William; one great grandchild, Braydon; her close friend, Robert Welsh of Mt. Pleasant; two cousins, Joan (John) Roberts and Pat (John) Whitworth, both of Bramhall, England; a sister-in-law, Pat Mead of Chagrin Falls, OH; and a brother-in-law, Charles (Kathy) Stressman of Grand Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John in 1978.
