Dorothy E. Thering, 92, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004 at her home. Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at Lux Funeral Home with Deacon Larry Fussman of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to MidMichigan Hospice. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Dorothy was born March 6, 1912, in Clare County, the daughter of Richard and Mary (Marshall) Brooks. She was married to Muril Chapman until his death in 1938. She then married Frank Thering on Nov. 22, 1941 at St. Cecilia Church in Clare. She farmed with her husband, Frank until 1957. They later purchased a store on the corner of Main St. and Pickard St. which became known as Therings market, operating it until 1968. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting. She donated numerous quilts to different charities. Dorothy is survived by five children, Ron (Doris) Chapman of Clare, William (Georgia) Thering of Mt. Pleasant, Genevieve (Dennis) Schumacher of Beal City, Charmayne (John) Hunrath of Sacramento, Ca., and Floyd Thering of St. Louis; one daughter-in-law, Kathy (Gary) Horner of Freeland; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and two sisters, Madeline Birkmeire of Clare and Beulah Heiberline of Bay City. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Muril Chapman in 1938 and Frank Thering in 1968; two sons, Robert Chapman and Donald Thering; daughter, Vivian Chapman; and two brothers, Donald and Harold Brooks.
