Joanne Beckett, 83, of Mt. Pleasant died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at her home. Her funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Deacon Larry Fussman of Sacred Heart Church and Deacon Nancy Casey Fulton of St. Johns Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation, the Isabella County Animal Control, Hospice of Central Michigan or to the Diabetes Foundation. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Joanne was born August 6, 1920, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Leone and Frances (Thayer) Sage. She was adopted by her maternal grandparents, Edythe and Isaac Archer in 1920. She married William Nelson Beckett on December 20, 1941 in Detroit. She was a secretary at Central Michigan University in the Art Department for six years, retiring in 1971. She enjoyed gardening. Joanne is survived by three children, Margaret (Michael) Giller of Carmel, Ind., William Austin Beckett of Mansfield, OH, and Barbara Lee Beckett and her special friend, Judy Sheffer of Traverse City; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a half-brother, Gary Sage of Monterrey, Cal.; and a brother-in-law, Jack Danaher of Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1988; and by her sister, Margaret Bernie Danaher. The family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers of Family Home Health Care, Hospice of Central Michigan, and the parishioners of Sacred Heart for the kindness and compassion shown to Joanne and her family.
