Earl Schafer, 74, of Beal City, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2022, with his family by his side. He was the youngest of six children and most definitely the favorite of his parents. He and his wife were married for almost 50 years and were blessed with ten children, of which were all guilty of causing him grey hair and hair loss. He loved watching his kids and grandchildren play sports, which transferred to him filming all the high school football games, from the years of his sons down to his grandsons playing the game. He enjoyed visiting with the shut-ins and home bound stating, "I have learned a lot from them." Earl was born September 1, 1947, in Isabella County, son of the late William and Blanche (Mead) Schafer. He married Rose Neubecker on October 27, 1972. He is survived by his wife, Rose; children, Carrie (Russ) Smith, Lynette (Steve) Satterlee, Christa (Chris) Nelson, Tony Schafer, Stacy (Nathan) Lyon, Ed (Amanda) Schafer, Jen (Nate) Wonch, Andy (Sarah) Schafer, Rachelle (Kregg) Cotter, Ashley (Mike Woodbury) Schafer; 22 grandchildren; sister, Sr. Josine; brothers, Herman and Carl. To the Beal City Aggie football program, from all the coaches to the players, dad says "Thank You". He enjoyed spending Thursday and Friday nights filming the games and being part of something big. From the highs and lows that the game brings, he loved it. To all the people that invited him into their homes to visit with them, Thank you. He was preceded in death by both parents; grandson, Aiden; sister and brother. A funeral mass will be celebrated for Earl at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the St. Joseph Church in Beal City, following with interment at the St. Joseph the Worker cemetery, with a luncheon following at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Beal City. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 4 – 6:30 p.m. Sunday, August 28, at the Church, with a rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wishes of family.
