Eddie Kay Walling, 59, of Mt. Pleasant died Monday, December 12, 2005 at home with her family by her side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, December 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. A vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday. Visitation continues at the church on Friday from noon until the mass begins. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan (401 S. Main, Mt. Pleasant MI 48858) or VH1 Save The Music Foundation (1515 Broadway, 20th Floor New York, NY 10036). Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Eddie Kay was born November 12, 1946 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of John T. and Ethel Marie (Rock) Rodgers. She graduated from Kirkwood High School in Missouri and went on to receive her Bachelors degree from South East Missouri State. She continued her education at Central Michigan University where she received her Masters in music. Before moving to Michigan she taught at in Champaign, IL and Muncie, IN. From 1977-1986 she taught K-12 music at Sacred Heart Academy in Mt. Pleasant. Since 1986 she has been teaching music at Sanford-Meridian Schools. Eddie Kays love for music was obvious. She touched the lives of hundreds of students over the years teaching them a variety of music along with many of its fundamentals. She also enjoyed swimming, softball, volleyball, reading and spending time in her yard. Eddie Kay is survived by her children Michele (Matt) Miller of Midland and Bryan (Sunshine) Walling of Monroe, OH; her granddaughter, Ainsley; brother, David A. (Rosa) Rodgers of St. Charles, MO; sister, Vicky Hornung of High Ridge, MO; and her special friend, Steve Rapp of Houghton Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents.
